George Lee Coppit, III, MD
Dr. George Lee Coppit, III brings more than two decades of distinguished military and academic experience to his practice of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
The son of a career military officer, Dr. Coppit graduated from Heidelberg American High School in Germany in 1987 before attending North Carolina State University. There, he earned his degree in Zoology, graduated Summa Cum Laude, and received his commission as a U.S. Army officer through ROTC.
He went on to complete medical school at the University of North Carolina, followed by a General Surgery internship and Otolaryngology residency at Madigan Army Medical Center. In 2003, he completed advanced fellowship training in Head and Neck Microvascular Reconstruction at Vanderbilt University, further refining his expertise in complex head and neck surgery.
Dr. Coppit served 24 years on active duty in the United States Army, with assignments that included Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, serving as Command Surgeon for U.S. Forces/NATO in Afghanistan—an experience he considers one of the highlights of his military career. For more than a decade, he also had the honor of serving as the White House Consultant for Otolaryngology.
Following his military retirement, Dr. Coppit served as Medical Director of Otolaryngology at Frederick Health Hospital until 2026.
Clinically, Dr. Coppit has a special interest in sleep surgery and the treatment of sleep disorders. He has more than 15 years of experience performing the Inspire implant for obstructive sleep apnea. His additional areas of expertise include sinus disease, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, and salivary gland conditions.
Dr. Coppit is honored to begin this next chapter of his career serving the patients of Annapolis and the surrounding communities, bringing the same dedication, precision, and commitment to excellence that defined his military service.
